What is infertility?
According to modern viewpoint, infertility means absence of pregnancy while having regular sex life.
If the pregnancy has not occurred, it is recommended to make examination for diagnosing the reason of not having pregnancy. Examination should not be postponed, because the sooner the couple starts relevant treatment, the better the family will have their desired baby.
Absence of pregnancy is a problem of both partners, as there are male, female and both male and female causes for infertility. It is ideal to make parallel examination of spouses.
The Perinatal Medical Centre ensures complete examination procedures, which provide for understanding the causes for infertility.
With what is it necessary to start?
For males it is necessary to make spermogram analysis and a МАР-test. In order to make this analysis, one should abstain from sexual relations for 3-5 days, as well as from a sauna bath and alcohol. In case any abnormalities are detected in spermоgram, it is necessary to consult an andrologist.
For females: 1. Blood analysis for hormones (during the period of the 2nd till the 5th day of menstrual cycle): FSG, LG, prolactin, DHEA -sulphate, testosterone, TTG, Т4 lib., estradiol; 2. Ultrasound examination of pelvic organs during the period of the 5th till the 8th day of the cycle; 3. Examination for infections (PCR-diagnostics of urea- and micoplasma, Chlamydia). 4. Independent estimation of ovulation (measuring of basal body temperature or making test for ovulation) during 2 or 3 cycles.
After collecting results of examination, it is necessary to make an appointment with the doctor specializing in reproduction, who will determine further examinations and tests.
In case there is assumption of adhesive process in small pelvis, or blocking of uterine tubes, the patient can be recommended hydrosonography, fertiloscopy or laparoscopy procedures for estimating status of uterine tubes.
If the uterine tubes are passable, it is possible to recommend a postcoital test (Shuvarsky probe). The probe is made for finding negative impact of cervical mucus on spermatozoon motility.
In case there is a good relationship of the couple with the attending doctor, it is possible to complete full examination within minimum period of time (2 to 3 months) and administer respective treatment.
