30 days before the delivery or right before the delivery, blood of mother-to-be is examined for dangerous infections.
Collection of umbilical blood takes place right after birth (irrespective of the fact, whether it was natural delivery or C-section) and till placental separation. A special needle punctures the umbilical cord and umbilical blood is collected to a container. After 10 minutes the procedure is completely over.
Umbilical blood is also studied for availability of viral and bacterial germs.
Stem cells stay in umbilical blood in small number. Therefore, at first procedure of cells production from blood is performed, and then they get frozen.
Under ultra low temperatures the correctly prepared biological material can be kept for indefinite time. After unfreezing, up to 70% of stem cells are vital and actively reproduce.
When it is necessary to use cells for transplantation, you can receive them according to written request. One should remember that concentrate of stem cells is to be transported in liquid nitrogen or its vapours in a special Dewar vessel and the concentrate is to be used right after unfreezing. It is forbidden to freeze the concentrate again.
